In a by-invitation piece for Forbes’s Russian edition, Egor Yablokov, E-Quadrat’s CEO, was invited to share his expert opinion on the future of Russian education. This follows Russian president Vladimir Putin’s announcement that the Bologna process would be abandoned in favour of further ‘sovereignisation’ of higher education.

The new reforms cannot be called ‘modernisation’ but rather ‘restoration’, as they suggest going backwards to systems and practices used for years in Soviet times. The most obvious consequence will include a reduction in student mobility.
Russian students will find it much more difficult to continue their studies abroad and foreigners will see no reason to get a degree that has no international recognition.
